Qualified Charitable Distributions and Gifts of Stock

Are you over the age of 72?

Here is a great way to support Anchorage Waldorf School if you are age 72* (70½) or older.

Qualified Charitable Distributions were first enacted as part of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 and made permanent in the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015. With a Qualified Charitable Distribution you can make a gift directly from your IRA each year, without having those distributions included in your adjusted gross income (AGI).

IRA Rollover (Qualified Charitable Distribution)

Rolling over is easy and it allows you to immediately help Anchorage Waldorf School students.

With recent changes to tax law, the charitable IRA rollover (also known as a qualified charitable distribution or QCD) is more valuable than ever.

Whether your generosity is influenced by a tug on your heartstrings or your financial plan, the charitable IRA rollover can help you leverage your support and minimize your taxation.

If you are 70½ years of age or older, have an IRA, and want to support Anchorage Waldorf School in a tax-savvy way, the charitable IRA rollover may be right for you.

Your IRA administrator can help you make a qualified charitable distribution from your IRA. Follow your financial institution’s procedures to ensure you receive the tax benefits of a QCD.

Benefits to you:

  • You can use as a for a gift to Anchorage Waldorf School
  • You avoid recognizing taxable income on the distribution.
  • You can receive a tax benefit regardless of whether you itemize deductions or take the standard deduction on your income tax return.
  • The distribution can count toward your required minimum distribution for the year.

To qualify:

  • You must be 72* (70½) or older.
  • Your total combined charitable IRA rollover contributions are limited to $100,000 per year. (Married couples may be able to contribute up to $200,000.)
  • You will receive an acknowledgment from Anchorage Waldorf School or other charity for each Qualified Charitable Distribution.

Please note, we do not provide any legal or tax advice and urge you to seek advice from your accountant, attorney, or other independent professional advisor to determine how an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution might affect your tax situation. To make a Qualified Charitable Distribution prior to calendar year-end, plan to contact your IRA administrator.

Gift of Stock

Gifts of stock can make an ideal gift for the benefit of Anchorage Waldorf School while providing the donor with additional tax benefits.

Appreciated stock gifts make particularly excellent gifts. (You avoid all capital gains taxes and receive an income tax deduction for the full value of the gift.)

Gifts of stock may be kept and combined with current assets of the School, or sold in accordance with the investment policy of the Board. Please contact the Development Office for more information at development@waldorfak.org or by phone at (907) 333-9062.

THANK YOU!

We are grateful for annual contributors to our school, like you.  Thank you for supporting Waldorf education in Alaska!
